Most people will end up taking gabapentin three times daily. However, to ensure a consistent level of gabapentin throughout the day, it's recommended to take the medication at even intervals, approximately every eight hours. Initially, 300 mg once a day on day 1, then 300 mg twice a day on day 2, then 300 mg three times a day on day 3. Alternatively, start with 300 mg three times a day on day 1, then increase according to response in steps of 300 mg (in three divided doses) every 2–3 days up to maximum of 3600 mg a day (1200 mg three times a day). My diagnosis is idiopathic sensory ganglionopathy. Fortunately, I have minimal side effects from the gabapentin. Initially, 2016, I was taking 1200 mg 3x/day. For immediate-release gabapentin (Neurontin), dosing may be initiated with 300 mg on day 1, doubled on day 2 (300 mg twice a day), and tripled on day 3 (300 mg 3 times a day).
