I took gabapentin for neuropathy & fibromyalgia and never noticed it doing much of anything for either one (or my anxiety)—it just made me gain a lot of weight. The thing that actually stopped my frequent panic attacks was prozac, and now that I'm medicated for ADHD, my anxiety has gone down even further. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. I then didn’t need the Kratom but the withdrawals were awful. I have also been on gabapentin 900mg per day for anxiety. I am now prescription free. The gabapentin didn’t work for me and the withdrawals weren’t bad with a slow taper. However, everyone reacts very differently to meds. Gabapentin did kill my memory and gave me some brain fog. For Anxiety "I went to a neurologist for nerveslike a live wire that started buzzing in my body 24/7. It wasn't painful, but annoying and concerning since it started up one day and it's been over a year. I'm getting testing done to rule out any physiological issues, but in the meantime, my doctor prescribed me Gabapentin 300 mg, 3x/day. Wow! I take gabapentin daily for my anxiety, but I also tend to take 2-3 day breaks in between to break up my tolerance every few weeks, those in between days are pretty brutal as the withdrawal usually begins around the 24 hour mark, and I usually lose an entire night of sleep. I've used it for social anxiety with fair results. Sometimes it brightens my social mood but other times I can't really feel it. Still, I like it better than benzos because it doesn't make me drowsy (like ativan). Also, I've noticed that sometimes I'll feel lethargic and kinda hungover the next day (only take 300mg). I tried lexapro but, after 10 days of it, I was so wired I could not function and sleep was almost impossible. Some things I've noticed since switching to gabapentin: 1. I take 600mgs of gabapentin for anxiety 3xs a day in addition to 2 beta blockers that are also supposed to help ease the anxiety AND 1mg of ativan. The gabapentin is what they put me on most recently and it didn't seem to help much until my dose was significantly increased. I do very much believe it's helping now. Stay at 300, and as soon as you start to notice rebound anxiety, or reduced effectiveness, back off a good ways. If you need to go over 300, assuming it used to work, then that's a good sign you've gone too far. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well.
