Some side effects of gabapentin may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Side Effects Common side effects of gabapentin. Gabapentin can cause several common side effects, including dizziness, drowsiness, and fatigue. Other commonly reported side effects include headache, nausea, and blurred vision. These side effects are usually mild and tend to improve over time as the body adjusts to the medication. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut Yes. I have been diagnosed for 32 years, so I have been taking it for a very long time. I haven’t had any side effects. The only drawbacks are that it is less effective over time and if you are late getting a refill it has horrible withdrawal symptoms. HOW TO PROPERLY USE GABAPENTIN: Assuming 300mg per pill, take one pill every thirty minutes, a total of three pills (taking more will make it weaker, see below) I took a very low dose 300 mg and immediately felt dizzy, very tired, depressed and almost flu like. So I quit it but was later prescribed it by a back surgeon. He didn't believe that I had a bad reaction to it and suggested a lower dose. Stay at 300, and as soon as you start to notice rebound anxiety, or reduced effectiveness, back off a good ways. If you need to go over 300, assuming it used to work, then that's a good sign you've gone too far. Gabapentin has helped me..you need to take it in the drug called Gralise. This is Gabapentin ER version. Take all doses wth dinner. When it is time for bed you are tired and it helps with sleep. The side effects in Gabapentin are front loaded they occur while you sleep. No hangover effect in the morning. Then when I break open another 300 mg pill and add half to the mix, I am so numb, they can cut one of my fingers off and I probably wouldn't notice. I can't function on it, have to chill for a few hours and then the effects become very overwhelming and I have to go to bed. I’ve been taking Gabapentin 300 mg/3x/day for the last 30 days and it’s seemed to help with my post surgery sciatic pain. I haven’t felt dizziness really maybe because of the pain but yeah between the 975 mg of ibuprofen, 300 mg of Gabapentin, and 800 mg of acetaminophen 3x a day maybe I’ve become numb to the side effects the last 30 days but it’s seemed to help with the pain Gabapentin can have mental side effects but they usually lessen over time, it's very unlikely that effects would suddenly appear or worsen now if you've been on the same dose since December. Did you recently increase the dose? I take a very low dose and gabapentin, 300 MG in the morning and at night and I get muscle twitching a lot. It can really happen anywhere on my body, sometimes it's quick, other times the twitching happens a lot. I even have heart palpitations which my doctor may think that it's my heart muscles twitching too. But this isn't confirmed yet. It’s usually decent for some patients with neuropathic pain, but I’ve found that it tends to cause side effects at effective doses in elderly patients or doesn’t work well enough in younger patients that respond better to amitriptyline. I know the feeling. I have chronic pain but I’m getting off the pain pills. I feel gabapentin is a better option, doesn’t relieve pain like an oxy but I also hate being stuck on something forever. At least with gabapentin we can get multiple refills without a doctors appointment. I had my doctor reduce me from 400 to 300 mg this week. I’m a very anxious person and I’m very afraid of new medication and side effects. Is it normal to suddenly feel a bit more calm on this medication? Is it safe to sleep? I’ve been having nerve pain after laparoscopy. Doctor prescribed gabapentin. After looking online, I’m terrified at the side effects. I already take prozac for anxiety and seroquel for sleep. How long do the side effects last?? I also read it can cause stomach ulcers?? I'm in recovery from alcohol addiction and after the numbing effects of alcohol wore off, I thought I was having mini heart attacks from the crippling weight in my chest which I was told was anxiety or grief. Immediately after taking 300mg of Gabapentin, the weight lifted. I was on 300mg twice a day. All antidepressants had major side-effects, including wild insane vivid dreams, high blood pressure and brain-zaps. So far only GABA helps me to cope with life somehow. And helped me with the brain zaps, thankfully
