I (22 F) started taking 100mg of gabapentin for anxiety nightly around 3 weeks ago & I really like the way it’s working so far. However! I’ve been breaking out like crazy all over my chin in both painful cystic acne and loads of closed comedones- some even going down my neck slightly. I’m 3 weeks post-op from an MD and was put on 600mg of Gabapentin daily to help calm the nerve irritation. They recently upped me to 1200mg and I’m experiencing really nasty acne breakouts on my chest, shoulders and forehead. Has anyone who has or is taking (taken) Gabapentin/Neurontin had any skin issues? This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. hey, i’m 24 and started experiencing symptoms of neuropathy since i was 17. i finally got the diagnoses a few months ago. almost a year ago i had mild irritation from tretnoin on my forehead and which my old derm told me it was fungal acne. so she kept treating me for it and it wasn’t working. it was one fungal acne prescription strength I’ve never had bad acne but after taking gabapentin I’ve been breaking out horribly all over my neck and jawline. Deep, painful, cystic acne. The thing though is I’ve stopped the gabapentin 2.5 months ago but I’m still getting break outs and nothings healing. Gabapentin is not known to cause acne. I think steroids can cause acne. Not an listed or reported side effect. Acne got numerous reasons to be aggravated from, so take an opinion from dermatologist,if you can. I’ve been on this about 2 months for pain related to a herniated disc. It seems since I started my acne had gotten significantly worse. Gabapentin can cause drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, tiredness, blurred/double vision, unusual eye movements, or shaking. These three drugs do not interact with one another, but could potentially interact with other drugs you may be taking. Check with your local pharmacist for additional information. I managed to clear up my back chest and shoulders without having to see a dermatologist. In the shower, after I wash my hair I use a body poof thing and wash with Neutrogena Body Clear Acne Body Wash. Then I wash with Vanicream Z Bar Medicated Soap. I use both because the neutrogena targets bacterial acne & the z bar targets fungal acne. There are reddit posts about people trying to potentiate their gabapentin. There are journal articles about NAC preventing gabapentin abuse, and studies that test their effectiveness on mood disorders separately. However, I cannot find a single thing about a combination treatment with gabapentin and NAC in humans.
