Is Gabapentin Addictive? An important concern surrounding Gabapentin is whether it is addictive. While Gabapentin is not classified as a controlled substance, evidence suggests that it may lead to misuse or dependency in some individuals. Gabapentin has a horrendously long half life, so it takes something like 36 hrs to 3 days to start feeling the withdrawal, so the 100mg step down over 7-10 days has been key for me. Sometimes I can go down faster if I’ve been at higher doses for only a day or two. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut Much more pronounced anxiolytic, cheaper to buy /produce, lasts much longer, tolerance doesn't develop as fast & finally, in my experience - I can get away with lower dosages than Gabapentin. (ae. 300-600MG QAM Phenibut HCl - vs.- 800MG TID Gabapentin) I would be interested though in Gabapentin Encarbil in treating alcoholism. Gabapentin is really in a class of its own.. I'd call it a disbenzopiate haha. It has the warmth and optimism that you get from opiates with a nice anxiolytic effect on par with Xanax. That's great and all but the real reason I use Gabapentin is for the dissociative effects. It feels very much like MXE if you've ever done that. Gabapentin does carry some risk of abuse and addiction and can also have adverse side effects, such as suicidal thoughts, mood swings, and acute changes in behavior. Currently, there are only a handful of FDA-approved medications used to treat addiction withdrawal symptoms. Check my posts I just got off of a four year 1200mg a day habit of gabapentin. Mostly a lot of Magnesium but only about 3 hrs before or after taking gabapentin. Vitamin C I took like 7k mg a day. Dlpa is controversial but it helped a lot. Advil and Tylenol mixed yes it’s safe google it. Tryptophan at night time helped a lot. Gabapentin (Neurontin) carries a risk for abuse, can get you high if mixed with drugs, causes adverse side effects, and can lead to overdose. What? Gabapentinoids are extremely addictive and rewarding. A simple Reddit search will show you. and withdrawals are ridiculous. It’s not as simple as a taper. There are lots of Facebook groups that show the taper needs to be in the 1mg dose at times. You cannot just half the dosages. Just got a script for Gabapentin. Starts out at 1 pill a day for 3-5 days and can go all the way up to 36 pills a day. Would like to experiment but want to be safe. Gabapentin is pretty crappy imo, pregabalin is much more recreational and easier to use due to proper absorption among other things. I've taken it daily usually 600-800mg a day for many a year and the "withdrawal" is hardly even noticeable and only lasts about 1 day.
