my psychiatrist just upped my gabapentin 2 weeks ago lol. it's literally the only reason I can sleep ( when mixed with 2 other anxiety meds as well ) because it finally lets sleep medication do something instead of me being an insomniac & now I take it 2 times a day otherwise, too, because the other anxiety meds I've tried when mixed with my mood stablizer have made me angry instead of calmed I've somehow not experienced any withdrawal symptoms either. Recently though they tried to switch me to Lamictal and completely dropped the Gabapentin. I had the rash/ulcer side effect and I'm curious if going cold turkey off Gaba is why. Regardless, Gabapentin just full on stopped working for me and instead was causing me to go manic at night. I'm on 1200 3x/day, as well. My first psychiatrist had me on 1500 4x/day. I weaned slowly. 1500 3 x/day, four years later 1200 3 x/day. Tried going down again, but am unable. Strangely enough, it's not because of bipolar; I have since developed some autoimmune disease, and it turns out the Gabapentin was aiding me with associated neuropathy. I don't know much about Gabapentin as a mood stabilizer (or any people who take it), so I'm wondering if anyone here can share what Gabapentin actually classified as an anti-convulsant, with its first use being for seizures. Its said to act as an antipsychotic when prescribed alongside an antipsychotic medication, enhancing the effects (mine being Seroquel). I was prescribed gabapentin for fibromyalgia pain before even getting diagnosed with bipolar, but I find it actually really does help my anxiety. I take 300 mg 3 times a day and that's an effective dose for me. Gabapentin is off label for bipolar disorder but from what my doctors have said its not really a good mood stablizer. I used it in the past for anxiety and it worked for that. I mean id say give it a shot and if i stablizes your mood thats great. Its a safer drug than being on heavier stuff like antipsychotics I tried gabapentin strictly for bipolar (I don’t have any co-diagnoses) and I really enjoyed it. It stabilized me within a few weeks and I was able to function well. The only reason I had to switch off of it was due to memory and cognitive ability. If I wasn’t getting a degree I would have stayed on it. For bipolar disorder, four double-blind RCTs investigating gabapentin, and no double-blind RCTs investigating pregabalin, were identified. A quantitative synthesis could not be performed due to Gabapentin may cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and dizziness. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and seek medical attention if experiencing serious side effects or changes in mood or behavior. Gabapentin is prescribed by healthcare professionals and should only be taken under medical supervision. yeah i take it for bipolar anxiety. its not typically prescribed as a mood stabilizer but it might work for some people. however it has worked wonders for me, i really struggle with ruminating like crazy to the point where it causes episodes in either direction. gabapentin has miraculously broken them and now my mind is all over the place, i can think about so many different things in a day Has anyone been prescribed Gabapentin for Bipolar Disorder? Until today I had never heard of it but theory is, its suppose to help me sleep, Research indicates that Gabapentin is good at lowering the highs, but though it can pull one out of deep depression, it's not as affective at pulling ppl out of low-grade depression on its own. I have been on HIGH doses of Gabapentin for 11 years, and have not once experienced hypomania in that time. However, I live in a constant state of the While gabapentin is frequently used in practice for a wide array of psychiatric diagnoses, its use is evidence-based for only a few indications. Multiple RCTs have shown gabapentin to be ineffective for bipolar disorder. There is insufficient evidence to recommend the use of gabapentin for MDD, GAD, PTSD, or OCD. Gabapentin has an average rating of 8.5 out of 10 from a total of 138 reviews for the off-label treatment of Bipolar Disorder. 81% of reviewers reported a positive experience, while 9% reported a negative experience. My doctor told me I need to quit the weed, ESPECIALLY sativa due to its stimulating properties. He prescribed me Gabapentin to help take the place of weed, and allow me to wind down at the end of the night. It's no weed, but the relaxing properties are enough for me to be able to skip the weed. So far I love it. Despite of the lack of evidence, reviews of gabapentin prescribing patterns in the United States show that this medication is still being used with alarming frequency for bipolar disorder. There are now five medications with specific, FDA approval for acute bipolar depression. I didn’t need to take it every day — it completely relaxes your central nervous system, so it was mostly helpful with my stress, anxiety, irritability, etc.. Gabapentin doesn't really hit him in any negative way. Personally I'm on gabapentin as well for sleep and anxiety during the day, I take 400 mg multiple times a day. The nice thing about gabapentin is it is totally non-habit forming, and it doesn't get less effective over time.
