Gabapentin keeps my sciatica pain to a minimal. I've taken this drug for the last four years ranging in doses between 300-6000 mg depending on what I was attempting to do. Regarding sleep, I find no difference taking it vs not taking it by itself. If I add a benzo or cannabis, sleep can come on easier without feeling groggy. The gabapentin seems to eally help my anxiety without question and my mood sometimes. I currently take 1200 mg a dayeither all at night or one AM dose and one PM dose. I always try to give a few hours between adderall XR and gabapentin. I have been on 400 mg of Gabapentin at night for 5 months now and never have withdrawls on the nights I forget to take it. The only issues I have is if I do not get enough hours of sleep I feel groggy in the morning. This is why gabapentin has helped my sleep hygeine so much by getting me to bed at a normal time. The dosage of Gabapentin prescribed by doctors to treat the sleep disorder insomnia and improve overall sleep quality is generally between 100-400 mg. "Gabapentin enhances slow-wave sleep in patients with primary insomnia. It also improves sleep quality by elevating sleep efficiency and decreasing spontaneous arousal. The results suggest that gabapentin may be beneficial in the treatment of primary insomnia." I've been prescribed Gabapentin for sleep. I can only sleeping if I've had about 5 or 6 hours the night before but I'm tired through the day. If I sleep 8 hours I'm not tired enough to sleep that night. I also have a lot of anxiety and my whole body tenses up, I try to mindfully relax my body but within a few minutes I tense up again. Tried this med multiple times for sleep. It never helped me sleep. Assuming this has addictive properties not sure it is a great replacement, I would through it in the ring with things to avoid like benzodiazepines. Never for sleep but rather for peripheral neuropathy around the time I had a microdiscectomy on L4-S1. Gabapentin is really in a class of its own.. I'd call it a disbenzopiate haha. It has the warmth and optimism that you get from opiates with a nice anxiolytic effect on par with Xanax. That's great and all but the real reason I use Gabapentin is for the dissociative effects. It feels very much like MXE if you've ever done that. Yes, you may start to notice you need it when you get closer to your next dose. I take mine at night. I take 200 mg for sleep / auto immune arthritis / fibro. I don't know how the heck it works so long for me personally, but I have pain relief all through the following day. Gabapentin can contribute to overactive bladder symptoms by relaxing the external urethral sphincter. And interestingly, gabapentin also can actually help decrease overactive bladder symptoms in some women. I take 100 mg of gabapentin at night for nerve pain. I also take Gemtesa, which is one of the newer overactive bladder medications on the Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. I was taking 300 mg gabapentin at night only for a while, and I know it’s low dose and it has to build in your system but it makes me feel weird or gives me really solid headaches. I’ve heard baclofen can also be used a little bit more like an as needed drug. Every once in a while I'll get RLS. I have an rx for gabapentin 100mg, which I won't take regularly, because I don't want to. I've found that when my RLS happens, taking 100mg before bed, makes RLS symptoms go away. I want to try to wean myself off of them now as I originally took them to help with the major anxiety from benzo withdrawal. But now im scared i will get bad withdrawal from gabapentin. It does help me sleep but i dont notice it helping much with anxiety throughout the day. I now take 50 in the morning and 50 at night if the pain is bad. I did take 100 x a day, but as I can gotten much older, I need less ( now age 76, diagnosed at age 43). I have never stopped exercising though, which really helps when you have this condition. Gabapentin calms my mind, which is the main culprit of my insomnia. I found it helps me go to sleep, but at times I wake in the middle of the night and have to take another dose, which helps me to fall back asleep within an hour. Does anyone out there just take gabapentin just at night for insomnia/sleep? And if so how many mg do you take and how long before you go to bed should you take it? My primary doc recently prescribed gabapentin 300-900 mg in the evening, but most of what I read says to spread it out evenly over the day. Since it seems to wear off after 6-8 hours, I'm spreading it out.
