So I'm doing spine and everyone is on Gabapentin, or Pregabalin and the patients complains about efficacy and side effects. My general understanding is that they think it has a good effect on radicular pain, but not so much on back pain which it is more often now than before prescribed to treat. I take 300 mg of gabapentin 3 times a day for my Ehlers Danlos Syndrome which causes frequent partial dislocations. It helped with my pain an amazing amount, gave me a lot of mobility back because the pain was more controlled. I tried to cut back on gabapentin. Just cutting midday dose to 300mg and taking 600mg other 2x caused what felt like sparklers going of under the skin of my thigh multiple times a day. It was intense and when it got to 8 or more times a day, I added that 300mg back. Well a few months back I did just that and it was a month, month-and-a-half of restless leg, and emotions stuck either in rage or despair mode. I'm on gabapentine 2700mg now - never felt like it's helped the pain and I'm too worried to know what the pain will feel like if I came off. Such a dilemma.
