I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? My dog was prescribed gabapentin in combination with an SSRI for reactivity and we actually discontinued it after a couple of weeks because she started showing signs of bad side effects. Increased anxiety, diarrhea, vomiting - she even threw up blood at one point!! I was terrified, so stopped giving it to her & the symptoms immediately stopped. I have been prescribed 200/300mg up to 3x a day and it’s good for masking anxiety sometimes but then you get used to it and when you feel your anxiety unmuted again you want to take another gabapentin. i try to use it twice a day, once in the AM once in the PM but it doesn’t make me super tired it just give me a little bit of a cushion to relax onto when I need it (cptsd etc). i’m not I have the worst anxiety which often turns into panic attacks and derealisation. the only thing to ever help me was xanax however I don’t want to get myself addicted to that. i’m wanting to try gabapentin but i have lots of anxiety around taking new medication as i usually convince myself that it’ll make my anxiety worse. Gabapentin is actually primarily used as an anticonvulsant, for nerve pain caused by shingles, and for restless leg syndrome. Off-label it is used for anxiety comorbid to bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety, bipolar, insomnia, substance abuse disorders, and a handful of other things depending on where you look. That was AWFUL. It was like I was drunk and tripping on drugs, yeah that sounds fun until it got to be too much and I couldn't sleep at all. I'm back to taking 300mg once, and I think I might just stop taking it. I'm taking it for chronic migraines and a little bit of anxiety, but so far it is causing way more problems than it's helping. Omg I have been wondering the same thing I have been on it on gabapentin for over 2 years now from anxiety am got my dosage all the way up to 2700 mg now I have become so irritable my wife and kids don’t understand and either do it I don’t know what to do I am down to about 600 to 900 mg at night time. Anyone else using it? sorry that happened to you!! different people have different side effects. it is one of the first resorts for sciatica and other similar nerve pain and it is highly effective for that in most people. i could not walk if i did not take lyrica (essentially a stronger gabapentin). i’m more than willing to trade a large amount of brain fog and my memory for mobility. the grapefruit thing relates Anxiety In Children. When anxiety symptoms are reported with gabapentin, they are more strongly associated with children rather than adults. There is a strong warning of 'neuropsychiatric adverse events ' in children described in the prescribing information for Neurontin, the brand name for gabapentin: TL;DR: Gabapentin causing anxiety. I was prescribed it for anxiety initially, and it really worked for the first year tbh. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. This is true for all gabapentin products, which can cause withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, agitation, and nausea or vomiting. More seriously, stopping treatment with gabapentin abruptly can lead to seizures. My doctor put me on an anti depressant even though I wasn't depressed, to help with the anxiety. Six weeks later I was not really feeling any effects. That was six weeks curled up in a ball with nausea and whole body nerve stress. There was a week or two of drinking with the medication, but at some point, the drinking made me so ill, it just wrapped around in my head physiologically that this alcohol was, in fact, causing this severe ill-at-ease sensation, and the medication made me feel amazing, used to treat withdrawal symptoms, anxiety, sleep, etc. My first couple of Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. I take gabapentin daily for my anxiety, but I also tend to take 2-3 day breaks in between to break up my tolerance every few weeks, those in between days are pretty brutal as the withdrawal usually begins around the 24 hour mark, and I usually lose an entire night of sleep.
