Dr. Just started me on Gabapentin. I'm taking it for anxiety. I'm very sensitive to meds so he started me on 100 mg 3xday. Depending on how I feel, he will up dosage in 2 wks. Will I feel anything on this low dose? 1 like, 18 replies I take gabapentin currently, and I genuinely think it saved my life. It was a game changer for my panic attacks while waiting to find the right dose & type of anti-anxiety and depression meds, and I still use it to boost me up when I’m doing something specifically anxiety inducing. I’ve had panic disorder and depression my whole life though, but my anxiety was worse than ever in my life before I started Gabapentin. All day every day. I would say start slow and if you feel relief and no side effects, it might be worth continuing and raising the dose. Gabapentin is actually becoming more and more dangerous. Even for people that take it for seizures and Nero issues. There are long term effects that cause issues (there’s research on this). For me if your on it for anxiety it’s not a good thing it is not FDA approved, I experienced some of the worst side effects from it. HBe Welcome to /r/gabapentin, here we primarily discuss issues pertaining to the medical, prescribed use of Gabapentin, Lyrica and Phenibut, as well as other Gaba related drugs. I was using Gabapentin for anxiety/recreationally and asked my doc to switch me to lyrica because I thought it would be more recreational but lyrica made me feel shitty and I felt like I almost had a seizure off 250mg lyrica. I had increased anxiety, felt weird, and was getting weird muscle twitches and body jerks. Gabapentin stopped my intrusive thoughts that would lead to anxiety & panic attacks. The thoughts would start as soon as I woke up & I would fight them all day long. It made it very hard to fall asleep or to go back to sleep after waking. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? sorry that happened to you!! different people have different side effects. it is one of the first resorts for sciatica and other similar nerve pain and it is highly effective for that in most people. i could not walk if i did not take lyrica (essentially a stronger gabapentin). i’m more than willing to trade a large amount of brain fog and my memory for mobility. the grapefruit thing relates I am prescribed Gabapentin for off label for anxiety and chronic pain related to cancer treatment. My script is written to take 1 pill 3 times daily. I notice more anxiety symptom relief when I take my first dose later in the day and space the last two doses closer together. You should call your vet. No one on reddit can assess what your dog needs, how large they are, what breed, the nature of the injury, etc etc from this post. For what it's worth, I give my 30 lb dog ~300mg of gabapentin for anxiety as needed (like around the 4th of July) as recommended by my vet. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Learn about the dosage, side effects, misuse, and comparison with Xanax. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. I take gabapentin daily for my anxiety, but I also tend to take 2-3 day breaks in between to break up my tolerance every few weeks, those in between days are pretty brutal as the withdrawal usually begins around the 24 hour mark, and I usually lose an entire night of sleep. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. Gabapentin has been an actual miracle drug for me. I have been prescribed around 30 or 40 pharmaceuticals in total since I was 6 years old due to really bad depression, anxiety and insomnia. I only found gabapentin 2 years ago but it has allowed me to go off every other med and just take gabapentin with otc supplements and weed. Not medical advice: Gabapentin is a good drug, and like most psychiatric drug it has multiple applications. It is most COMMONLY used as an anti-convulsant (but so are lots of mood stabilizers!) and neuropathic pain, but can be used for anxiety. A patient came to me on 4800 mg of gabapentin plus an SSRI for long-standing anxiety and panic. Over a long period of time, a gradual taper and 200 mg per day of pregabalin was much more effective for her. She remained on that dose stably for many years.
