Hi i am just about to start gabapentin. For anyone who has taken or is taking this how long before the pain improves and once taking it do you get obvious improvement after each dose or do you just take regular doses and hope for just generally reduced pain. Thanks There is no good evidence to support or contradict the suggestion that gabapentin at daily doses of 1200 to 2400 mg reduces pain in fibromyalgia. Background. Fibromyalgia is a complex disorder characterised by widespread pain, fatigue, poor sleep, low mood, and other bodily symptoms. Clearly, Gabapentin is not the best choice for you. There are other options. Ask your doctor to let you try something else, or just try OTC medication in various combinations to see if that will help. I've been on Gabapentin for fibro for 5+ years (300mg twice a day) for joint and muscle pain. I don't have any negative side-effects and have not had a bad flare in 5 years--a little neck/shoulder blade ache some evenings, but Tylenol takes care of that. Gabapentin is typically taken in three daily doses that add up to between 900 mg and 2,400 mg. There is no standard dosage of gabapentin for fibromyalgia because it is an off-label use. Studies investigating the use of gabapentin for fibromyalgia used between 1,200 mg and 2,400 mg total daily dose. TLDR; I've gone from sleeping 16-22 hours per day to sleeping only 3 hours and feeling super wide awake and active since taking Gabapentin. Anyone else experience this side effect? I’ve been on gabapentin for over two years and it does provide some relief, but I’m concerned about the side effects. Gabapentin has been known to help some people with fibromyalgia pain, but often is not effective. I tried it years ago when I was first diagnosed, and it did nothing at all for me. It is not licensed for the treatment of fibromyalgia, but is commonly used because fibromyalgia can respond to the same medicines as neuropathic pain. Objectives: To assess the analgesic efficacy of gabapentin for fibromyalgia pain in adults and the adverse events associated with its use in clinical trials. Finally found a GP who recommended gabapentin for RLS, and it works about 85% of the time, which is better than walking around apartment for 3 hours to try to stop it, jabbing the end of a chopstick into my calf, and crying with frustration. Gabapentin is supposed to be a very safe painkiller. It worked pretty well for me when I took it at night. It lasts 12 hours in my system, so I can only take it if I remember early enough in the evening. PS: I just realized one thing: The receptors (GABA) that baclofen interferes is the same of the receptors that gabapentin interferes. So, if you ever tried gabapentin and got benefit of it, baclofen might be useful too . I used gabapentin pretty much in the past, but i left it because of side affects. Patient Forums for Gabapentin. New research supported by the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) shows that the anticonvulsant medication gabapentin, which is used for certain types of seizures, can be an effective treatment for the pain and other symptoms It was agreed to update the review by splitting the earlier one into two components: this review which looks at the role of gabapentin in chronic neuropathic pain (including neuropathic pain of any cause, and fibromyalgia), and a second one to determine the effects of gabapentin in acute postoperative pain (Straube 2010). The authors concluded that pregabalin, at a dose of 450mg daily, was most likely to be effective in treating patients with fibromyalgia, but adverse events were not negligible. Further evidence was necessary to clarify these conclusions. Given the unclear quality of included trials, the authors' cautious conclusion and recommendations for further research seem reasonable.
