My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. Gabapentin has only given me a slight headache when it starts kicking in, goes away shortly after coming on. I take 2 600mg a day, bumped up from 300mg twice a day. I take them with my cyclobenzaprine as well. I have been prescribed 200/300mg up to 3x a day and it’s good for masking anxiety sometimes but then you get used to it and when you feel your anxiety unmuted again you want to take another gabapentin. i try to use it twice a day, once in the AM once in the PM but it doesn’t make me super tired it just give me a little bit of a cushion to relax onto when I need it (cptsd etc). i’m not Gabapentin is actually primarily used as an anticonvulsant, for nerve pain caused by shingles, and for restless leg syndrome. I tried it years ago, but don't recall much in the way of anxiety relief. gabapentin mixed with alcohol could potentially make you dizzy and have trouble focusing, however some studies suggest it might help with alcohol dependence. it might be best to just ride out the hangover without taking any meds. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. Bonus hangover tip: I don't know why it took me so long to try this perhaps because I don't drink so much that headaches are the problematic symptom. But inflammation causes brain fog, and ibuprofen/aspirin/etc are anti-inflammatories. I grew up thinking of them as painkillers, but they work great for hangover anxiety That's awesome! As far as my experience gabapentin definitely helped me feel better from hangovers. I might still have the occasional headache but the anxiety was gone. That's the worst part of hangovers for me, the anxiety. Also, the more days I drink in a row, the worse it is when I stop. I always keep gabapentin on hand for exactly this.
