I have been suffering from shingles for about two months now and on Gabapentin for about that long. The sores are still causing me pain and the gab helps dull it. I was wondering if anyone has been on this drug for a good length of time. Are there any withdrawal symptoms to be aware of. Should I taper off on the drug or can one stop cold turkey? However, the pain is still there. The pain around the rash area comes and go and I feel like pinching my nerve. So my doctor presided me Gabapentin 300mg. I take 3 times a day and it does nothing for my pain. Dr confirms shingles and gives me script for anti viral Med and gabapentin. I have heard mixed things with gabapentin and was reluctant to take it, but I did anyway. Today, 12-11-17, I have been on gabapentin and Excedrin and the combo is definitely helping. I started Gabapentin last night and woke up feeling quite a bit better. It does make me dizzy, but it has made it possible for me to get out of bed without having to will myself to do it. Long story short, if you’re in a lot of pain maybe talk to your doctor about Gabapentin. Not exactly sure on dosing here for shingles specifically, but Gabapentin is a hell of a drug and not the easiest to come off of. Gabapentin does not work to treat the virus-causing shingles, but rather it is used to address the pain from nerve damage that can occur in certain individuals at higher risk of developing complications from shingles, termed postherpetic neuralgia. I was on gabapentin for 4 months-started out with 1 /day along with a couple of opiods a day. I went off the opioids in a month, but found that taking 7 gabapentin (2/2/3) per day helped a lot.
