I’m following this because I too have horrible visceral hypersensitivity and nothing my docs have done so far has helped. Gabapentin made my pain worse and also made me suicidal, cymbalta did nothing except slow my motility even further and Prozac made me a crazy person. No one really knows what to do for me anymore. I’m at a loss and out Past a certain point, gabapentin bioavailability begins to reduce. This means that taking more means it will actually be weaker ( source ) I lol whenever I read a comment about somebody taking 40 or so pills and complaining about how everybody else is bullshitting about the gabapentin high. Really suggest looking into Lyrica if you're set on trying Gabapentin as it's a newer version of the same med. The ONLY reason they will try Gabapentin first is because it's a generic now and is cheaper than Lyrica. I was prescribed gabapentin starting at 100 3X per day. I've read some horrific reviews of this drug including some patients who experience horrible diarrhea. I was wondering if anyone had experiences with this drug either positive or negative. As far as the anxiety and depression caused by IBS pain, gabapentin provided fairly quick relief, which is one of the best things about it. The pain itself I noticed to be of lesser extent and frequency. - Ondansetron: My IBS isn't exactly IBS-D, because it's not exactly D. My bowels are kind of hyper activated, and when I eat I need to go to the toiler to ease the pain. Stools were always loose, poorly formed, yellow, thin, sometimes more solid sometimes for liquid. One of our cats is really sensitive to gabapentin, so we tend to reduce the recommended dose; if the cat doesn’t get the whole dose you’ll probably be fine. Also, gabapentin can be compounded into cat-friendlier flavors. We get the chicken flavor, usually. Gabapentin helps my ibs pain. I have it prescribed for chronic pain. -Female 31 for reference- I have has 2 surgeries within the last 2 years. After my last surgery which was a hysterectomy (left one of my ovaries) and stage 5 endometriosis removal or attempt at removal. The combination of all these drugs keeps my pain and IBS symptoms mostly manageable on a daily basis. I still have bad moments and yes even bad days, but my life is more manageable. That's it. I did take gabapentin for many years and I maxed out at 3600 mg per day back in 2020. So it was then that I switched to Lyrica. I recently started Gabapentin (300mg 2x a day, planning on 3x eventually), and it seems to be making my IBS worse The last two days were bliss, and I felt amazing, although I'm burping more, and borderline shitting my pants occasionally I was on gabapentin for around 10 months for IBS symptoms as my GP said it helps with nerve damage. It had very slight effect so now on Amitriptlene and hopeing this will help I feel it has improved but only been on it for 6 weeks. Hope you find gabapentin works for you. I did well with SSRI's After taking Gabapentin my unusual stomach growling and movememts are gone, constipation was already gone after ssri, but for only specific people lack of GABA and serotonin might produce overactivity in the brain and through the gut brain connection affect the stomach/intestine movements. There is some research that suggests that Gabapentin does help with reducing rectal mechanosensitivity and increases compliance in patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowels.
