Your nerve pain will come back because you are no longer treating it. Those could be side effects of Gabapentin (I don't experience any except some weight gain - I've been on it for around six years for migraine relief at 300mgs twice daily), but they could also be side effects of a TBI - my partner suffered a TBI in 2014, and has experienced those same side effects, despite not taking Gabapentin. I just got prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin 3x a day, with the possibility to increase to 4x a day if needed. This is for long term management of anxiety but reading about everyone’s experience online is really stressing me out. I’ve spoken to a number of Vets, and they all agreed that long term use of Gabapentin is fine. My guy is on about 100- to 125 mg twice a day & it’s led to a tremendous improvement. I was finally able to stop that medication after six years. Early effects were balance and loss of short term memory, #1 effect is ongoing and #2 has largely dissipated. Long term use increases dementia risk 70%, but I need 1800 mg/day to not have horrid effects. People stay on gabapentin for life, its not harsh on liver or kidneys etc but make an effort to keep your dose as low as you can because you can build a tolerance. How do you split your dose? So far neither is true. I also take Cymbalta, another devil drug (if you listen to Reddit), and the two of them are making life livable, so I'd say I have no regrets.
