gabapentin makes pain worse reddit gabapentin 300mg good for sciatica

Gabapentin increased my pain dramatically due to mucosal dryness. You could try trying to hydrate a lot. I tried, but ended up with a constant stomach ache from being constantly full of water and still dry to the bone. I just started on gabapentin and my pain has gone up a substantial amount. Has anyone else had this happen? Should I wait it out or see my Dr asap? I started on a lower dose about 3 weeks ago, increasing the dosage each week. I didn't really feel any effects until this week when I started taking 1200mg per day. Kinda freaking me out. Gabapentin's supposed to be anti-anxiety so I feel like my doctor might not believe me (especially since I haven't had much in the way of other side effects). Plus if I stop Gabapentin I'm not sure what other options I have. Lyrica gave me side effects but antidepressants were even worse. TL;DR: Gabapentin causing anxiety Gabapentin is a textbook go to for patients with “nerve pain” but it is very common in CRPS patients for it not to work properly. I’m sorry I don’t have an explanation as to why this is happening. I only took gabapentin for a short period of time (less than a month) and stopped taking it after a short discussion with my primary care team about gabapentin for neuropathy when I only have numbness and no pain. I take neurontin & it maybe makes me a bit foggy & difficulty with nouns but pain makes me worse at those things. I think it has made my short term memory a bit worse (but a note pad certainly helps that). For me, the neurontin made the pain go from a hypersensitivity to touch from my knees to my shoulder to just the actual problem in my SI joint. I’m used to it, but it gives me blurry vision and my fingers hit random letters when writing/texting. Neuropathy is worse than ever but I have to choose pain or poor vision. How the heck does anyone get morphine for nerve pain. Drs always tell me that doesn’t work. I could have a much higher quality of life with real pain relief. Gabapentin worked great for me But I had to stop taking because it was interacting with some other meds. However when my SO took Gaba it made his Chronic back pain worse. Has anyone here ever had gabapentin do anything for their pain? I think it’s a worthless drug and the first one that neurologists prescribe. HOW TO PROPERLY USE GABAPENTIN: Assuming 300mg per pill, take one pill every thirty minutes, a total of three pills (taking more will make it weaker, see below) Drink each down with a decent amount of fizzy soda. The acidity helps it absorb in the stomach. Trust me. Do this. Once you've taken the last pill, have a nice meal. For my chronic pain, I take two different opiates, baclofen, and gabapentin. It’s funny you bring this up, because last week, I forgot to refill my gabapentin on time and there was a hang up with insurance, so I didn’t get it for 2 days. It allowed me to see what a difference it DID make when combined with my opiate pain medication! I realize your post is from a year ago- but my sweet angel “Gerald” crossed the rainbow bridge 9/13/23, and I am certain that Gabapentin was at the very least- a contributing factor to his passing. He had a stomach obstruction that required emergency abdominal surgery. He was sent home with 400mg of Gabapentin for post-operative pain i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut Gabapentin is used for social anxiety in humans and it is kind of what he has. He loves people, but is terrified of strangers. It chills him out, but doesn't make him sleepy/out of it like the Trazodone, which seems to make his anxiety worse. He is still scared of strangers. It just takes more to get him to loose it. I was just wondering if it is possible that gabapentin can sometimes make neuropathy pain worse. My EMG and biopsy results are negative for short fiber neuropathy so far. Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Neuropathy Support Group. Has anyone ever had the experience of Gabapentin causing severe muscle cramps in arms and legs and muscular pain and feeling of weakness? I know it is supposed to basically do the opposite and help with muscular problems..but this has happened twice to me as soon as I started the gaba and it was very severe, My pain was a 9/10 and lyrica decreased my pain by about 70%. Opioids make me sick as a dog so I’m thankful for lyrica. It’s not for everyone but it does help people. I know several on it that have my rare disease. Gabapentin didn’t help much so each of these drugs may effect people differently. Gabapentin worked wonderful for nerve pain for me for about a year. It took me a few days to get used to it. At first it made me extremely drowsy and I could not take it 3 times a day or I would be useless at work. The most common gabapentin (Neurontin) side effects are dizziness and drowsiness. This may affect your ability to drive or perform other activities. Other gabapentin side effects include edema (fluid buildup), weight gain, and eye problems, but these aren’t as common. I take 1800mg of Neurontin (gabapentin) a day for my nerve-like/restless leg syndrome. I don't think it could be making your pain worse but rather it may not be long enough that you have been taking it. You probably may want to call your doctor and ask if a pain killer like Ultram (tramadol) or something stronger could be added to the neurontin. Gabapentiin was great at first for me, even though it did make me forget words and be loopy when I took it at night. I couldn't drive or make any serious decisions after I took it. It also caused me to gain 40 pounds. I went off of it as a test, because it seemed like my pain was getting worse. It turns out that it was causing more pain for me!
