If you end up getting unwanted side effects then you can always try Pregabalin instead. It does the same job, see what works for you. I have been on gabapentin since my MS dx in 2015I now take 600mg 3’x/day and I can’t tell you at this point what difference it makes! I would have to go off of it to see what results there would be. Gabapentin needs to be taken with lots of fat and sugar and needs to be dosed in spaces, while Pregabalin needs to be taken on an empty stomach and all at once I liked Pregabalin a bit more, very clearheaded and euphoric in contrast to benzos, the traits a bit stronger than Gabapentin. Gabapentin is really in a class of its own.. I'd call it a disbenzopiate haha. It has the warmth and optimism that you get from opiates with a nice anxiolytic effect on par with Xanax. That's great and all but the real reason I use Gabapentin is for the dissociative effects. It feels very much like MXE if you've ever done that. I have taken Gabapentin for around 10 years - I usually take two doses a day. My prescription says 3x daily, but my Doctor says one or two, and then "as needed." The as needed is when I get severe sharp nerve pain - like stabbing in my feet (usually). My new neurologist is encouraging me to take gabapentin regularly (before I’d only take it when the burning in my legs prevented sleep). Generally, I’m not trying to take a ton of prescription meds, but if it’s better to take it regularly and might help with pain, then maybe? Has anyone had luck with Gabapentin? I'm about to start taking it for a constant slightly painful buzzing/tingling in my legs below the knees. It's so weird even loud noises ramp the intensity up a notch.
