I also have neuropathic itching from the nerve damage, so I’m hoping Gabapentin will help that as well. My doctor is starting me off slowly to try to avoid/lessen any negative side effects (right now 100mg 4 times a day). Clinical trials showed that Gabapentin reduces neuropathic pain by <1 point on a scale of 1-10 and only benefits about 15% of patients. They also show that benefit is unlikely to increase with higher dosages or longer treatment. I started taking gabapentin in 2016 after stabbing, fiery nerve pain post an L5/S1 fusion. It allowed me to get off of opioids which for me had worse side effects. Side effects for me on Gabapentin did not include any weight gain. Now my pain relief is acetaminophen and Gabapentin. If I’m really having a bad time I have had opioids, but I’m not a fan of them so I’m usually at an 8 out of 10 bad when I do end up saying okay. Oddly (but it’s apparently pretty common) my ADHD meds nuke the pain and nausea and sensitivity to light and sound of a migraine. My cat takes 100 mg gabapentin 2x a day for pain and has since around July 2021. At first he was super loopy, now he's normal on it. Unfortunately I think that only speaks to how well it can be tolerated in cats, since my cat is not aggressive, I don't know if it would help your cat's aggression or not. The nerve pain I needed to take the gabapentin to help for a while. I took it 3x/day for the first week and then the next week I think I only took it at night. Either way, experiment and I hope you get some relief! I have a pinched nerve just below my clavicle at C4. It affects the nerves in my right arm, pins and needles, dull sharp pain etc.. and I was prescribed Gabapentin, the doc told me to experiment to see what worked and started me at 100mg. It didn’t start to help until I upped my dose to 800mg before I felt any relief.
