My rabbit has been on gabapentin for the past 3 weeks and, earlier this week, he started having limb weakness, urine retention, drowsiness and lack of appetite. Yesterday, I came across this article on the side effects of gabapentin and how it is also addictive. Mimzy's vet agreed to up his pain relief, we're going by degrees on the metacam, so now 0.4 mls twice a day and we'll gradually increase as needed till we reach a total of 1.5 mls a day. Meanwhile she'd like to add gabapentin if he's really struggling. Anyone have experience giving this to their bun? If your rabbit is bloated, do not massage or attempt to assist feed and seek medical assistance immediately. Doing either can fatally rupture their gas-filled stomach. They do use Gabapentin though and if they consider it useful for Darcy once the tests come back, they would consider using it. She did warn that Gabapentin causes heavy sedation/wooziness in rabbits. Its an anti seizure medication that is also used to treat nerve pain. It is effective on my nerve pain, but also causes memory problems, headaches, and muscle twitching. Has anyone's rabbit been prescribed gabapentin? Simba is 12 and his arthritis has gotten really bad recently and he's having a hard time walking. He's already on Metacam for an unrelated issue and the Dr prescribed gabapentin for him today. Just wondering what your experience with it is. Gabapentin is really in a class of its own.. I'd call it a disbenzopiate haha. It has the warmth and optimism that you get from opiates with a nice anxiolytic effect on par with Xanax. That's great and all but the real reason I use Gabapentin is for the dissociative effects. It feels very much like MXE if you've ever done that. I can only talk about gabapentin from having taken it as a human.
