Does Gabapentin cause stomach pain in high doses or is it just the olive oil I use with it?? I haven’t had this issue before. Whatever the actual cause of my abdominal pain is (still a mystery) it seems to be triggered by dehydration. I think I've sorted it out to something like 8-12 oz of fluids for every 100 mg of gabapentin I take if I'm taking it at nighttime. HOW TO PROPERLY USE GABAPENTIN: Assuming 300mg per pill, take one pill every thirty minutes, a total of three pills (taking more will make it weaker, see below) Drink each down with a decent amount of fizzy soda. The acidity helps it absorb in the stomach. Trust me. Do this. Once you've taken the last pill, have a nice meal. Some side effects of gabapentin may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. I personally stay away from anti-psychotics. A dr 15 years ago prescribed this for insomnia. I slept 15 hrs straight. I realize your body gets used to it, but still. I could not work the next day taking that drug. I take gabapentin for nerve pain, and it helps me sleep well. I don't trust this drug, but for now I think it's necessary. If you have experienced the nausea/stomach pain with gabapentin, did they get better over time? Are there any remedies that could help? Is it worth persevering for now, especially since my pain is unbearable at the moment? Yes, gabapentin can cause horrible gases in your stomach. It is, in fact, the most commonly reported side-effect and can range from mild discomfort to severe abdominal pain. Several surveys have revealed that some people have experienced gas pain so severe that they thought it was a kidney-related pain. I started recently on Gabapentin to treat abdominal distension and pain from IBS-C. The doctor started me on a very low dose (50 mg), and now that I've been on it for 2 weeks, I'm increasing to 100 mg. Gabapentin worked wonderful for nerve pain for me for about a year. It took me a few days to get used to it. At first it made me extremely drowsy and I could not take it 3 times a day or I would be useless at work. My doctor worked with me to find a way to slowly increase the dose to t I take 600mg 3x/day. Yesterday I missed my afternoon dose and I ended up having diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, and was INCREDIBLY anxious. However, I have an anxiety disorder and it was a stressful day, so I just blamed my symptoms on stress. But today I missed the afternoon dose again, and I’m having the same symptoms now. Last month I went from 2700mg down to 600mg within 3 weeks so I could start Lyrica. I had been on Gabapentin for 3 years starting at 900mg and ramping up to the 2700mg in January and I decided I wanted to try something else. The only problem for me was increased pain in the last week, which I fully expected. Like my stomach would swell so bad and the pain would be so bad. It would feel like my stomach was gonna burst open. I think my endometriosis had caused a lot of that. I still get some swelling with certain foods sometimes but nothing like it was. The gabapentin helps still when I do get pain flare ups. The most common gabapentin (Neurontin) side effects are dizziness and drowsiness. This may affect your ability to drive or perform other activities. Other gabapentin side effects include edema (fluid buildup), weight gain, and eye problems, but these aren’t as common. Started getting nausea (drinking lots of Ginger Ale and candied ginger) and one night I had a really bad stomach ache in the middle of the night. I tapered down to 200mg a day last Thu. 100mg in the am and 100mg in the pm before bed. Still a little nauseous but no severe stomach pain. Are these GI issues a common side effect on gabapentin? I asked about Gabapentin as the patient was ESRD on dialysis, and she told me she got it recently for chronic “non-specific” belly pain that she had for the last 2 months. Although this non specific pain get worsen when who goes to the bathroom to defecate 😭 Yes, I have. I take Gabapentin for back pain. I was also taking Cymbalta which I've been weaning off of slowly. I've had 2 surgeries. A decompression and disc replacement on my cervical spine and also a spinal fusion in my lumbar spine. I have back pain with most lifting activities that the Gabapentin helps with. Since I started taking this for sciatic nerve pain, it's like my muscles aren't working for bowel movements. I have always been regular with no problems and that's why I suspect gabapentin is doing it. As soon as I saw stomach pain, no sleep, no hunger or thirst, the sweating is FUCKED, I was vomiting, as someone stated below it felt like they had a stomach bug or something and I did also until I went back up to 150mg a day instead of 125mg. I’ve been stuck in bed in one position for 4 hours because of stomach pain. Today is my first time increasing my dose and taking gabapentin in the morning. I’ve never had anything like this and even moving slightly is agony. I am now 2.5 weeks off Gabapentin completely, but I am still feeling the symptoms that began last month: my upper stomach/epigastric region is constantly tight/tense, I feel nauseous pretty frequently (usually at night around the times I used to take my evening dosages but some mornings too), some diarrhea in the mornings, and overall unrest
