Because doctors prescribe gabapentin off-label for anxiety, there’s no specific dosage for treating anxiety symptoms. Your dosage will depend on your: A potential starting dose is 300 I take 600mgs of gabapentin for anxiety 3xs a day in addition to 2 beta blockers that are also supposed to help ease the anxiety AND 1mg of ativan. The gabapentin is what they put me on most recently and it didn't seem to help much until my dose was significantly increased. I was on the tablets, 800 mg 4 x’s a day, (worked up to 3200 mg daily) for PTSD, OCD, anxiety/panic disorder along with diazepam 10mg 3 x’s daily. A patient came to me on 4800 mg of gabapentin plus an SSRI for long-standing anxiety and panic. Over a long period of time, a gradual taper and 200 mg per day of pregabalin was much more effective for her. She remained on that dose stably for many years. I always tell people to spilt their doses up and eat some fats with them recreationally however I also do this myself for pain and anxiety. Gabapentin’s bioavailability is very poor so smaller doses “staggered” out (I do 300mg every 30 minutes with PB) So maybe take another half and have a bite of some healthy fats. Dr. Just started me on Gabapentin. I'm taking it for anxiety. I'm very sensitive to meds so he started me on 100 mg 3xday. Depending on how I feel, he will up dosage in 2 wks. Will I feel anything on this low dose? 1 like, 18 replies 300 mg once in a while. I have been taking 300-600mg for the last several days and haven’t noticed a greater benefit so I’m going to take a break and just try to sit through my anxiety for a while. My goal is to be completely off it at some point, and ultimately I would like to be off most meds. For this dose take 600mg (1 whole tablet). For the rest of your staggering experience, you will want to repeat the 45 minute intervals, have a smaller snack each time, however taking 300mgs (half tablet) until you reach desired effect. The research that has been done and the literature on the Gabapentin for anxiety is actually a pretty high dose upwards of 2400-3600mg to actually be chronically effective from what I’ve read. I never want to utilize said dose. Yup.prescribed. 900mg/day but usually only take 600 but with benzos too ( clonazepam and temazepam ) .. I was on lexapro for a few years which helped greatly but eventually the side effects outweighted any benefits the gabapentin helps a little but not that much and the weight gain is bad and hard to loose but thats the only side effect i get. I just got prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin 3x a day, with the possibility to increase to 4x a day if needed. This is for long term management of anxiety but reading about everyone’s experience online is really stressing me out. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. You should call your vet. No one on reddit can assess what your dog needs, how large they are, what breed, the nature of the injury, etc etc from this post. For what it's worth, I give my 30 lb dog ~300mg of gabapentin for anxiety as needed (like around the 4th of July) as recommended by my vet. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? My dog tried gabapentin for anti-anxiety and also for his neuter before, but he was still so hyper and I saw absolutely no difference in his behavior, and he was taking 300mg dosage. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. Seems fine to me. My sister's dog and my current foster are in the 30-40# range and have been told by different vets that 400 mg of gabapentin is fine every 8 hours for super high anxiety and reactive behavior. My 85# pittie takes 300 mg 2x per day, more for pain but it has helped with reactivity too. GABA aka gamma-aminobutyric acid is NOT GabaPentin. GABA is the skeletal building block from which GabaPentin, PreGabalin/Lyrica and Baclofen are derived. Note that GABA is contained within the names of GabaPenti and PreGabalin. I tried it years ago, but don't recall much in the way of anxiety relief. It's pretty much pointless if the next day if I need to take some Clonazepam to feel "regular." Gabapentin also keeps new brain synapses from forming, and when taken for a more than a month makes me feel like a dummy. So, not really recommend imo. Disclaimer- I'm not a health/medical professional. Just a dude with social/general anxiety. I take 100-300 mg as needed for anxiety (panic and anxiety attacks only - daily anxiety is managed with Buspar). It works well for me without any rebound effects but I may take one or two doses max a week.
