I have to give my cat enough gabapentin to bring down a mastiff for vet visits. I also don’t put her in the carrier until we are parked at the vet clinic. She’s such a claustrophobic wreck that if she doesn’t get the gabapentin beforehand, within 5 minutes of getting in the carrier she will vomit, poop on herself, and pee on herself. I gave my cat gabapentin and calming drops together for shorter car rides. Their vet has allowed them to take a double dose of gabapentin. I keep my cat in a carrier that they like. When my cat gets scared in the car and isn't in a carrier, she goes under the driver's seat and it's hard to get her out while keeping all the car doors closed. So my cat (Kitty) just had some dental work yesterday morning. She came back home yesterday afternoon. She had a little bit of wet food upon coming home and a little bit this morning. The vet gave me 6 tablets of Onisor and she's also had a antibiotic shot. I've tried to get her to take the pill by putting in her food, but she spits it out. Even if your cat has responded well to gabapentin before, still do a test run to make sure the gabapentin that you have is working and has not gone bad - For oral solution gabapentin, refrigerate as instructed, in a dark bag. If you are transporting the gabapentin, it helps to have a cold bag, or just a bag of ice to keep the vial cool. Question: Can I give my prescription for gabapentin to my cat who has been taking it in a liquid form but has almost run out. I've been giving him 1ml liquid twice a day. Otherwise, buprenorphine is really helpful. It can also make cats a bit zombie-ish, but in my experience less so than gabapentin. Gabapentin is a very safe medication with very wide dosing range, she will be fine. 100 mg is a standard dose. It works very well but there are times where the cat can manage to fight of the sedation, hence why your vet probably wants you to dose at night and again before the vet visit. One of our cats is really sensitive to gabapentin, so we tend to reduce the recommended dose; if the cat doesn’t get the whole dose you’ll probably be fine. Also, gabapentin can be compounded into cat-friendlier flavors. My sister has 3 cats on gabapentin and said they get used to it after a few days. I’m on day 1.5 for my cat and she doesn’t seem as zonked or woozy already. I gave my cat the liquid form of gabapentin. I just grabbed her, tucked her in-between my legs facing forward, blocking her from backing up. Then I grabbed her head with one hand and used the other hand to shoot the meds in her mouth. My cat has been on pills & liquid. The liquid was faster because you just squirt it and they normally swallow it based on reflexes. For the pills, I hold her from the back and front while opening her mouth with one hand, drop the pill as far back as you can and close her mouth gently.
