Beware gabapentin abuse/addiction [my story] I wanted to do a brief write-up of my story and past being addicted to abusing gabapentin in large amounts for the past year. It's a drug i've been taking for years but only recently have i started taking insane amounts that a doctor wouldn't recommend and i've found myself trapped in a pattern of Gabapentin is not highly addictive. It, like many other drugs, has the potential to become addictive. This is more of a factor in human medicine, and almost completely irrelevant in animal medicine. There’s a reason there are human opiod dealers but not dog gabapentin dealers. Check my posts I just got off of a four year 1200mg a day habit of gabapentin. Mostly a lot of Magnesium but only about 3 hrs before or after taking gabapentin. Vitamin C I took like 7k mg a day. Dlpa is controversial but it helped a lot. Advil and Tylenol mixed yes it’s safe google it. Tryptophan at night time helped a lot. I love my gabapentine because it allows me to have a better quality of life with almost no side effects but that withdrawal was unexpected. This scares me. Over the past 2 months my doctor started me on 300mg 4 times a day, now up to 800mg 4 times a day for my chronic nerve pain in my spine. Individuals describe varying experiences with gabapentin abuse, including: euphoria, improved sociability, a marijuana-like ‘high’, relaxation, and sense of calm, although not all reports are positive (for example, ‘zombie-like’ effects). My mom takes Gabapentin. She has addiction issues and pretty much goes through her monthly prescription in the first week, then when she's withdrawaling, she's absolutely miserable to be around. I can only feel so bad for her when she constantly has me on the verge of tears from being so mean. But anyway, when she recommended gabapentin to me i asked if it was addictive and she said she wouldn’t say addictive but abusable rather. She says addicts will frequently use this med to alleviate withdrawal symptoms too and that at doses of 2,400 mg it could have recreational effects. What we do know is this: gabapentin is not an opioid. The drug’s mechanism of action does not involve the opioid receptors in your brain, which makes it far less addictive than other prescription meds like oxycodone or benzodiazepines. i was put on 300mg gabapentin around 3 weeks ago. i used to take 3 a day but now i take only 2. it was prescribed to me as a "mood stabiliser" but then i changed doctors and my new doctor told me its more of an anxiolitic rather than a mood stabiliser. he also said that its not addictive. i heard some people say that they cant sleep if they don't take their gabapentin, so i tried one night (in It becomes a very nice opiate without the side effects and addiction. HOW TO PROPERLY USE GABAPENTIN: Assuming 300mg per pill, take one pill every thirty minutes, a total of three pills (taking more will make it weaker, see below) i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut What? Gabapentinoids are extremely addictive and rewarding. A simple Reddit search will show you. and withdrawals are ridiculous. It’s not as simple as a taper. There are lots of Facebook groups that show the taper needs to be in the 1mg dose at times. You cannot just half the dosages. In general gabapentin is not addictive. You can get withdrawals if on it for a long time, but unless your using it to chase a high, it doesn’t usually become that. I have been on it for about 10 years, and can’t say I feel an urge to take it like other addictive drugs I have come across in my life. Gabapentin does carry some risk of abuse and addiction and can also have adverse side effects, such as suicidal thoughts, mood swings, and acute changes in behavior. Currently, there are only a handful of FDA-approved medications used to treat addiction withdrawal symptoms. Is Gabapentin Addictive? An important concern surrounding Gabapentin is whether it is addictive. While Gabapentin is not classified as a controlled substance, evidence suggests that it may lead to misuse or dependency in some individuals. YES! Gabapentin can be addictive. There even is a withdrawal component to this drug. And yes, if taken in a high enough dose, you can get high. But if taken on a regular basis, everyday, the high is diminished. Sounds like he does not get them from a doctor. Give it 2-3 hours, if you feel fine and wanna go a bit heavier dose another 0.5 of the ativan with 800 or 1600mg gabapentin. Gabapentin and Lorazepam are both generally well tolerated, safe to take together, and at those doses not dangerous really at all (excepting hypersensitivity or allergies). Gabapentin has been increasingly associated with drug abuse, particularly in people who mix it with opioids, alcohol or other substances. Illegal diversion of gabapentin has led to its illicit availability on the streets, as well. Using gabapentin with opioids can be dangerous.
