I take gabapentin daily for my anxiety, but I also tend to take 2-3 day breaks in between to break up my tolerance every few weeks, those in between days are pretty brutal as the withdrawal usually begins around the 24 hour mark, and I usually lose an entire night of sleep. I take 400x3 right now, but Thursday I plan on asking for 600x3. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. Yesterday I added 600mg in the early afternoon. I'll likely take 600mg three times a day but maybe only twice per day. I took gabapentin for neuropathy & fibromyalgia and never noticed it doing much of anything for either one (or my anxiety)—it just made me gain a lot of weight. The thing that actually stopped my frequent panic attacks was prozac, and now that I'm medicated for ADHD, my anxiety has gone down even further. Gabapentin is actually becoming more and more dangerous. Even for people that take it for seizures and Nero issues. There are long term effects that cause issues (there’s research on this). For me if your on it for anxiety it’s not a good thing it is not FDA approved, I experienced some of the worst side effects from it. Gabapentin works wonders for my anxiety. I take 900mg at a time (3 300mg capsules) It’s short acting so I’m prescribed it 3 times daily. I think it can be addicting but if your taking it like prescribed, I wouldn’t worry too much. It sounds like I’m taking a ton but gabapentin is prescribed in those high doses for some reason. My script is written to take 1 pill 3 times daily. I notice more anxiety symptom relief when I take my first dose later in the day and space the last two doses closer together. I've had zero luck with gabapentin. I took it up to 400 mg 3x/day and my doc said there was no point in pushing it any higher if I didn't have any luck with it at that point. And yes, that is a tiny dose. Usually they start you on 300 mg 3x/day for anxiety. But try it and see. There's also pregabalin (Lyrica). Six weeks later I was not really feeling any effects. That was six weeks curled up in a ball with nausea and whole body nerve stress. I found a therapist and a naturopath and all finally came to the realization it wasn't psychological, it was physiological. The day I started gabapentin at night for sleep was the day I felt better! It was like a It worked pretty well at stabilizing my mood. The problem with gabapentin is that it's easy to abuse and there's health risks that come with that abuse. I definitely did. Used it to get a buzz a couple of times. Also I found that hydroxyzine worked way better at managing short term anxiety. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? Not medical advice: Gabapentin is a good drug, and like most psychiatric drug it has multiple applications. It is most COMMONLY used as an anti-convulsant (but so are lots of mood stabilizers!) and neuropathic pain, but can be used for anxiety. Others complain that is just causes tons of bad brain fog and causes them trouble functioning cognitively, makes them feel clumsy and dumb and mushy, weight gain, and fatigue and actually makes their anxiety much worse. I suffered from high anxiety with panic and anxiety attacks. I started this medicine at about 19 and had been off and on it the past 13 years. It literally has made me a new person. When I don't use it, I notice a lot of fatigue, worry, anxiety, etc. Everyone is different. Gabapentin stopped my intrusive thoughts that would lead to anxiety & panic attacks. The thoughts would start as soon as I woke up & I would fight them all day long. It made it very hard to fall asleep or to go back to sleep after waking. Was given Gabapentin for pain but noticed it stopped those thoughts dead in their
