Research supports the use of the anticonvulsants gabapentin (Gralise, Neurontin, Horizant) and pregabalin (Lyrica) to help relieve pain caused by damaged nerves. Both gabapentin and pregabalin are particularly effective in the treatment of postherpetic neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy and pain caused by a spinal cord injury. Neurontin and Gralise are both forms of the medication antiepileptic drug (AED) gabapentin and are used to treat postherpetic neuralgia, nerve pain caused by shingles (herpes zoster). Neurontin is also used alone or in combination with other medications to treat seizures caused by epilepsy in adults and children who are at least 12 years old. Gralise (gabapentin) is taken by mouth once in the evening with food. The dosage is typically started low and slowly raised over a couple weeks. Side effects include dizziness, sleepiness, and I was told there was new form of Gabapentin, Gralise, a sustained release formulation that supposedly really significantly reduced the side effects experienced when Gabapentin is injested as Neurontin. The Gralise dose titrates up to 1800 mg after 2 weeks. So I have two main questions.
