My dog tried gabapentin for anti-anxiety and also for his neuter before, but he was still so hyper and I saw absolutely no difference in his behavior, and he was taking 300mg dosage. Is this common or has anyone else’s dog not reacted to Gabapentin? With severe insomnia and low levels of "deep sleep", and knowing that GABA supplements do not cross the brain barrier, has anyone had success with prescribed Gabapentin? Years ago, I was given 300 mg 3x a day for anxiety, etc. It never helped me at all. Actually felt like it was almost a placebo.absolutely no effect on me. Seems fine to me. My sister's dog and my current foster are in the 30-40# range and have been told by different vets that 400 mg of gabapentin is fine every 8 hours for super high anxiety and reactive behavior. My 85# pittie takes 300 mg 2x per day, more for pain but it has helped with reactivity too. As for your gabapentin dose, 100mg is low and a great starting dose. Gabapentin doesn’t really help with panic attacks but general daily anxiety it does and if you are having panic attacks for an extended period of time it does help take the edge off and make it easier to relax more. I’ve been on it for a year for anxiety, AUD and nerve damage. Gabapentin is helpful to some people with specific pain problems as many in the comments are suggesting. However if you are getting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to treat depression and/or anxiety keep in mind gabapentin can actually reduce the efficacy of the treatment. i’ve had horrible experiences with psych medication in the past so it took me awhile to get the courage to take my first dose of gabapentin (100mg) after i was prescribed it. The main reason I wanted to comment is to chime in about the anxiety meds. I have one boy who is on 30 mg of prozac (fluoxetine) daily. I was SUPER hesitant about starting him on anxiety medication. Personally, I felt like there was a stigma around it and it would mean I failed as an owner. The research that has been done and the literature on the Gabapentin for anxiety is actually a pretty high dose upwards of 2400-3600mg to actually be chronically effective from what I’ve read. I never want to utilize said dose. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. Although evidence is limited, some studies show gabapentin can help with anxiety symptoms. One 2020 review suggests gabapentin may help with different types of situational anxiety, including: I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? Gabapentin, on the other hand, is the best overall. In fact, I cant think of a single negative. It’s euphoric, relaxing, helps my anxiety, functional, no hangover, has an afterglow, and almost has a psychedelic touch to it. Basically, gabapentin is cool. Try gabapentin kids. I have been taking gabapentin for about 3 months- I was given a script for 100mg x 3/day. I took it as prescribed for a few days and couldn’t tolerate the drowsiness. I got switched to the liquid version and started taking 50mg x3. That has really helped- if the anxiety increases I take 100mg and it works great most of the time. Yup.prescribed. 900mg/day but usually only take 600 but with benzos too ( clonazepam and temazepam ) .. I was on lexapro for a few years which helped greatly but eventually the side effects outweighted any benefits the gabapentin helps a little but not that much and the weight gain is bad and hard to loose but thats the only side effect i get. Gabapentin may cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and dizziness. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and seek medical attention if experiencing serious side effects or changes in mood or behavior. Gabapentin is prescribed by healthcare professionals and should only be taken under medical supervision.
