Gabapentin is indicated as adjunctive therapy in the treatment of partial seizures in adults and children aged 6 years and for the reatment of peripheral neuropathic pain in adults. It's not clear exactly how gabapentin works. In epilepsy, it's thought that it stops seizures by reducing the abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
