If it is an addiction, chances are you have an addictive personality, in return you'll eventually become addicted to Gabapentin as well. It has the warmth and optimism that you get from opiates with a nice anxiolytic effect on par with Xanax. That's great and all but the real reason I use Gabapentin is for the dissociative effects. I have become dependent/lowkey addicted to my gabapentin. I began abusing it after learning how it can make you feel when you use it like that. I loved the feeling it produced and I quickly made it a daily habit so long as i had it. You are just placing massive strain on your kidneys, which are solely responsible for eliminating gabapentin. They essentially pee out Neurontin whole, and it's a bit like peeing out a molecule shaped like fiberglass. It causes intense oxidation strain and can cause nephritis. People have even died from Neurontin. At the end of October 2021, I began taking Gabapentin 300 mg once a day. This was as the doctor had prescribed, so I did not think anything of it. The medication at this low dosage did not seem to be helping me, so after two months, I decided to up my dose to 300 mg twice a day after speaking with my new neurologist. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut I've been on a moderate dose of gabapentin in the past and I can't fathom finding myself addicted to it! Like another person commented, it seemed to have the effect of a sugar pill. Maybe made me slightly sleepy and weird feeling in the morning but that's it. Makes me wonder how much / in what form people are taking that leads them to addiction. However, gabapentin shares characteristics of medications associated with misuse and addiction, in that it produces a withdrawal syndrome and certain psychoactive effects. which is close enough. Gabapentin can be used in elderly patients, but caution should be exercised due to age-related changes in renal function. A lower starting dose may be necessary to prevent overdose and accumulation of the drug in the body. Monitoring of kidney function is recommended.
