Gabapentin is supposed to be a very safe painkiller. It worked pretty well for me when I took it at night. It lasts 12 hours in my system, so I can only take it if I remember early enough in the evening. Hi everyone. So i visited my GP yesterday to try some new fibro meds and she prescribed Gabapentin. I had previously been given amyltriptiline but that didn’t work for me because i just couldn’t function on it; i was left tired and groggy for most of the day, unable to think straight and would sleep for 12 hours at a time, even sleeping through the alarm clock in the mornings. A bit, I've gone up to max dose 3600 mg a day and the libido was great. Now since two weeks I've started with an antidepressant called " Sensaval", it really helps regarding the CPTSD'n and the depression, also good for Fibromyalgia and IBS, but this medicine takes the passion away. I've had fibromyalgia for almost two years. Each flare seems to get progressively worse. I'm trying to figure out what medication to try with the least amount of side effects and withdrawal issues. Has anyone tried Gabapentin? If so, what was your experience? i started gabapentin for fibromyalgia a week ago and i want to talk about my experiences and share some thoughts. so far gabapentin 300 2x a day has helped with my sleep given me more energy during the day reduced my pain to a more managed level allowed me to do more this week than i did most days last year soothed my anxiety (a bonus) I have been on Gabapentin twice, once for seizures and once for occipital neuralgia. It's definitely dulling and I had a huge problem with short-term memory when I was on it. It did, though, help with the pain. It was agreed to update the review by splitting the earlier one into two components: this review which looks at the role of gabapentin in chronic neuropathic pain (including neuropathic pain of any cause, and fibromyalgia), and a second one to determine the effects of gabapentin in acute postoperative pain (Straube 2010). Other reviews may I've been on Gabapentin for fibro for 5+ years (300mg twice a day) for joint and muscle pain. I don't have any negative side-effects and have not had a bad flare in 5 years--a little neck/shoulder blade ache some evenings, but Tylenol takes care of that. Read comments from people with fibromyalgia who have tried gabapentin, a medication that can help with nerve pain and sleep. Learn about the benefits, side effects, dosages, and alternatives of gabapentin. Today I visited a new neurologist for something unrelated to my fibro. We had three treatment options, one of which is gabapentin. When he saw the family history and Dx of fibromyalgia in my chart, he said, "Oh we're definitely gonna try the gabapentin then." Gabapentin is extremely effective for my neuropathy. In 20 years I have never found anything better, and I am very happy that it works for me at the lowest prescribed dosage. A word of caution: be very careful when taking gabapentin with other medications that have sedative effects. Having Fibromyalgia alone carries a stain of harsh, unfair judgement from doctors. Gabapentin was one of the very last medications, of many, that I tried at the recommendation of a physician. Since then, Gabapentin has been an additional stain on my medical records (and it wasn’t at all worth a damn). I take gabapentin but not for my fibromyalgia. I take it for my sciatica. It takes the edge off a little. So if my sciatica pain is an 8, the gabapentin takes it down to a 6. It helps slightly with my fibro.. takes an 8 down to a 7. Firstly, beware Gabapentin has several lawsuits and legal issues against it, mostly from memory loss. Pfizer literally plead guilty to marketing it for off label uses such a fibromyalgia. Not only did it do nothing for my pain and others close to me, the brain fog majorly affected my life and work. Gabapentin has an average rating of 6.7 out of 10 from a total of 178 reviews for the off-label treatment of Fibromyalgia. 56% of reviewers reported a positive experience, while 23% reported a negative experience. so pro-tip: Find a really good pharmacist, they know more about these medications than doctors anyways. I've been on gabapentin for quite a while, it really calms everything down for me which helps. I describe it as, it prevents things from building up that causes pain. Which means if i'm really stressed or undergo something physically, it doesn't stop the pain from happening because my system I was on gabapentin for years. A new rheumatologist just started me on pregablin- titrating down from 1800mg gabapentin over 2 weeks and then starting 25mg pregablin up to 75. Titrating down on gabapentin was hell. I don't get withdrawl symptoms, thank goodness, but the pain and insomnia made it a hellishly miserable two weeks. Finally found a GP who recommended gabapentin for RLS, and it works about 85% of the time, which is better than walking around apartment for 3 hours to try to stop it, jabbing the end of a chopstick into my calf, and crying with frustration. Gabapentin ('Neurontin) is still prescribed for fibro very often, altho the similar pregabalin ('Lyrica') is its 'successor' (praps less side effects), has more evidence and is FDA approved, like duloxetine ('Cymbalta') and milnacipran ('Savella'). So I take the gabapentin sometimes and the lyrica sometimes. I feel like the Lyrica is actually better for my fibromyalgia, but it makes me way more sleepy, and I get blurry vision. I tolerate the gabapentin better, and it seems to be not-as-long-lasting.
