Gabapentin is actually becoming more and more dangerous. Even for people that take it for seizures and Nero issues. There are long term effects that cause issues (there’s research on this). For me if your on it for anxiety it’s not a good thing it is not FDA approved, I experienced some of the worst side effects from it. I was prescribed Gabapentin to prevent seizures while I was dealing with pregnancy induced hypertension. Told both my Obgyn and general practitioner that it somehow helped with my constant health anxiety and they both suggested I keep taking it. Yup.prescribed. 900mg/day but usually only take 600 but with benzos too ( clonazepam and temazepam ) .. I was on lexapro for a few years which helped greatly but eventually the side effects outweighted any benefits the gabapentin helps a little but not that much and the weight gain is bad and hard to loose but thats the only side effect i get. Although evidence is limited, some studies show gabapentin can help with anxiety symptoms. One 2020 review suggests gabapentin may help with different types of situational anxiety, including: The research that has been done and the literature on the Gabapentin for anxiety is actually a pretty high dose upwards of 2400-3600mg to actually be chronically effective from what I’ve read. I never want to utilize said dose. I take gabapentin currently, and I genuinely think it saved my life. It was a game changer for my panic attacks while waiting to find the right dose & type of anti-anxiety and depression meds, and I still use it to boost me up when I’m doing something specifically anxiety inducing. My doctor just prescribed me Gabapentin 100mg 3x per day for anxiety. She said she’s had much success with patients who can’t use benzos. And the online reviews are very positive. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. I’ve struggled with anxiety for over 7 years. Tried many SSRI’s and SNRI’s and buspar. Minimal help. Supplemented with klonopin (posted this recently as a topic). I just started using 300 mg gabapentin (100 mg in morning and 200 mg) in evening). Seems to be helping. Anyone else using it? The Gabapentin is keeping my mind in a less black/white state I guess. It’s easier to find distraction from the panicked thoughts but it’s not like I’m anxiety free. I am prescribed Gabapentin for off label for anxiety and chronic pain related to cancer treatment. My script is written to take 1 pill 3 times daily. I notice more anxiety symptom relief when I take my first dose later in the day and space the last two doses closer together. I just got prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin 3x a day, with the possibility to increase to 4x a day if needed. This is for long term management of anxiety but reading about everyone’s experience online is really stressing me out. I have had severe generalized anxiety for my entire life and have not responded well to any SSRI SNRI or Buspar. Dr. Just started me on Gabapentin. I'm taking it for anxiety. I'm very sensitive to meds so he started me on 100 mg 3xday. Depending on how I feel, he will up dosage in 2 wks. Will I feel anything on this low dose? 1 like, 18 replies I found out I had ADHD a year after I'd been taking Gabapentin and found out it's used to treat anxiety too. I am currently not medicated but looking to start and see how it will help with my ADHD (My diagnosis is very recent). I don't find Gabapentin helps with my anxiety at all. I take 600mgs of gabapentin for anxiety 3xs a day in addition to 2 beta blockers that are also supposed to help ease the anxiety AND 1mg of ativan. The gabapentin is what they put me on most recently and it didn't seem to help much until my dose was significantly increased. I do very much believe it's helping now. Gabapentin reduced my anxiety tremendously. And I had it bad. But it all comes down to biochemistry and what it is what is causing the anxiety. I think a mistake people make is that if it doesn’t help at a low dose they raise the dose super high which can cause lots of side effects and make getting off hard. A patient came to me on 4800 mg of gabapentin plus an SSRI for long-standing anxiety and panic. Over a long period of time, a gradual taper and 200 mg per day of pregabalin was much more effective for her. She remained on that dose stably for many years. Gabapentin stopped my intrusive thoughts that would lead to anxiety & panic attacks. The thoughts would start as soon as I woke up & I would fight them all day long. It made it very hard to fall asleep or to go back to sleep after waking. Gabapentin works wonders for my anxiety. I take 900mg at a time (3 300mg capsules) It’s short acting so I’m prescribed it 3 times daily. I think it can be addicting but if your taking it like prescribed, I wouldn’t worry too much. It sounds like I’m taking a ton but gabapentin is prescribed in those high doses for some reason. After a weeklong (Sunday thru Saturday) experiment of taking 300mg 2x daily (6am and 6pm) and not getting substantially positive results, I backed off taking gabapentin at all. For three days I felt pretty good, then I had a rough Thursday and took 600 mg. It was effective but left me feeling almost “hung over” afterwards.
