I take Gabapentin for neuropathy that’s associated with my reflux (and for other things. It does triple duty for me). I believe I have had chronic reflux since at least 2002 but started Gabapentin in 2016. The medication definitely hides my symptoms but doesn’t make it better or worse once discontinuing. i have been in gabapentin for a little over one month. the VA started me at 300 tid, then 400, then 600, and now i am at 800 tid. i have definitely gained some fat but i so stay very active and eat consciously. my pain and anxiety are definitely lower and my sleep has greatly improved. i was prescribed gabapentin to stay off alcohol and phenibut LPR has been linked to laryngopharyngeal vagal neuropathy (this is why it often occurs after a viral infection) and Amitryptiline is commonly used as a treatment for neuropathic pain and nerve damage. Amitryptiline is often prescribed along gabapentin, another drug for neuropathic pain, especially for cases resistant to PPIs/H2 blockers. Initially, I thought, some how, my anxiety is causing all this. but NO, After goinf through multiple research papers and articles i found out, prolonged LPR is causing Vagal neuropathy in some patients ( since vagus nerve is connected to esophagus, the LPR is irritating the nerve so long for it to become malfunctioned)So , Fck H2 bloackers and My LPR symptoms became about 10x more manageable after starting, nerve pain is much better, I sleep better, and almost no more panic attacks. I was put on Gabapentin about 3 weeks ago. I am desperate for any relief from the discomfort in my throat (edit: caused by Distal Esophageal Spasms) How often do you supposed to take the gabapentin? I suspect I have LPR. My main symptoms are burning throat and ear pain. I know it’s LPR because I’ve gotten some relief with PPI. But I would rather take gabapentin as gabapentin also treats chronic pain and fibromyalgia. Let us know if it helps you. Maybe I’ll ask my ENT for it. Absolutely! Please feel free to ask me anything. My main symptoms are: EXTREME, untreatable GERD that causes loss of voice. Dexilant 60 mg worked for 8 years, but the tumors got bigger to the point where nothing truly addresses it. I have tried Gabapentin, amitriptyline and currently taking tramadol but cough is not getting any better. In fact, it is getting progressively worse. I also received a nerve block but no response to that. My mom recently started taking Gabapentin to relax her throat muscles for coughing fits r/t post nasal drip and/or GERD. Prior to that she had very decent luck with Protonjx (pantoprazole) and Flonase. And on top of that, LPR is not that well researched either. I can imagine that there is not much known about the interaction of neuropathy and LPR. Correct. Let’s talk about the treatment of laryngeal sensory neuropathy. Someone who has had neuropathy for years will likely need medication for 1 or 2 years. After that, I taper down the dose. Tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs): Like gabapentin and amitriptyline, TCAs modulate pain and cough pathways, with some evidence suggesting benefit in LPR-related cough and throat discomfort. Serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs): By increasing serotonin and norepinephrine levels in the brain, SNRIs may help regulate cough I’m on 300mg Gabapentin daily for GERD and Distal Esophageal Spasms. My worst symptom is a constant globus sensation (“tightness” in my throat) accompanied by excessive mucus in the back of my throat. Has anybody had luck with Gabapentin? I just really want my globus sensation to go away. It’s awful I have been taking gabapentin for about 8 months and I just recently was diagnosed with silent reflux. I’ve never had reflux issues until recently. I started gabapentin in late Jan and reflux symptoms started in March. My Drs are stumped and say they don’t know if gabapentin is causing it. I have two more Dr appointments this week. I've (20M) been dealing with LPR-like symptoms (lump in throat, chronic cough, post-nasal drip) for about 2.5 years now. I first started having these symptoms after overeating extremely unhealthy foods for several months followed by contracting a virus (not covid) that made me cough a lot. LPR is also called silent reflux, it’s basically where acid keeps coming up the esophagus and it’s more known for the throat clearing rather than heartburn. Look through the GERD posts, there’s a lot of older posts that have great information and tips on dealing with it, but it’s a very personal journey, not a one size fits all way to So yes , I can pinpoint the exact same.day all this issues started, after a bad viral cold, finally after a SELSAP i was diagnosed with post viral vagal neuropathy, laryngeal sensory neuropathy, the missdiagnose from doctors and the inecfesary extreme dose of ppis, antibiotics and NSAIDS made me getting actually reflux, so I still.experienced bad rebound and gastric problems after 1 month We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us. I have been on a low dose of gabapentin (900 mg) for 6 months for sleep, and aside from constipation, my LPR symptoms are out of control. My GI wants me to get off of it. Thinks it may also cause motility issues. anyone have experience with gabapentin making reflux worse? Gabapentin 900mg/day had no effect. Added Amitriptyline 10mg/day for a month and also no effect. So I weened off gaba and raised amitriptyline to 20 and later 25mg/day for around a month. This ended up making my LPR worse. Same for me, that New York LPR doctor Jamie Koufman even recommends using nerve medication like Gabapentin, Amitriptyline and so on. I think most of the medical community are not caught up yet, which is frustrating for patients who just want some kind of treatment that works.
