I have been taking Pregabalin for the past 8 weeks for neuropathy as my feet were driving me nuts. They would have a burning sensation at the same time as feeling cold (which I know does not make sense), if anything touched them it felt like sandpaper was being dragged over them. I been recently put on gabapentin my doctor says it will fix my neuropathy. Has anyone else experienced improvement in their neuropathy symptoms. I noticed while taking it my skin gets itchy and I noticed improvement with digestion My TSH was 16.8 though (a friend with hypothyroidism said that was super high, but I don’t know anything about it). My doctor said my chronically untreated thyroid is likely the cause of the neuropathy. Has anyone else experienced this? I've been on Gabapentin for peripheral neuropathy for 6 years now. I have numbness in the soles of both feet, yet I describe my sensations without Gaba as random pain in spots of my feet as though I'm walking on rocks, and I would get electric jolts in my feet as I tried to sleep. I started getting peripheral neuropathy pain about nine months ago in my feet and hands right after I received a cervical steroid injection. I started taking gabapentin about 7 months ago. I have gradually increased my dose from 100 mg a day to 1500 mg. Gabapentin worked wonderful for nerve pain for me for about a year. It took me a few days to get used to it. At first it made me extremely drowsy and I could not take it 3 times a day or I would be useless at work. I swear by Gabapentin, and have been on the maximum dose for years now. In general, it sounds like most people who try Gabapentin either see a lot of relief or not much at all. For me, the neurontin made the pain go from a hypersensitivity to touch from my knees to my shoulder to just the actual problem in my SI joint. It is more than worth any side effects for me & I am on 600mg 3x/day. I'm currently taking 1200mg of gabapentin a day and 60mg of cymbalta daily. Gabapentin completely eliminated the pain and numbess for a bit over a year. Eventually the pain and numbness came back even stronger and the doctor recommended cymbalta. Now with taking both medications im living much more comfortably. For what it's worth, Gabapentin didn't help me, so my doc switched me to lyrica and it works much better. Not perfect, but better. I also take alpha lipoic acid twice a day on my doc's advice. I have idiopathic small fibre neuropathy, so there aren't a lot of options out there besides treating the symptoms. I got peripheral neuropathy from a medication so I've been on gabapentin for 10 years now to treat it. I've never gotten tired from it but I do recommend to take the first dose on a day off to see how it effects you.
