I think it was more the underlying condition of Trigeminal Neuralgia, the Gabapentin was used to treat that. It helped the Trigeminal Neuralgia to a certain point before I had to switch to Carbamazepine. I have typical and atypical trigeminal neuralgia, occipital neuraligia and trigeminal autonomic cephalgia. I've been through gabapentin, tegretol, duloxetine, acupuncture, amitryptiline, cbd, lignocaine, low-level laser therapy, electro-pulse therapy and now lamotrigine. Neurologists wants to try botox or ketamine infusions next. Gabapentin doesn’t help me much. I take it but it’s really prescribed for fibromyalgia. I take tegretol and Baclofen for the TN. Gabapentin was a godsend but only worked in tandem with Trileptal. I never took solo and maybe a combo would help offset the attacks. After a multitude of drugs, my answer was originally found in Gabapentin. The first night I took this I could sleep and lay on my face. Unfortunately I have the pain 24/7. I was diagnosed about six months ago. I take 300mg of gabapentin 3 times a day, but still have occasional flare ups if something triggers them. I don't know if it's normal or not but that's how it is for me. I just do my best to avoid triggers.
