Gabapentin works wonders for my anxiety. I take 900mg at a time (3 300mg capsules) It’s short acting so I’m prescribed it 3 times daily. I think it can be addicting but if your taking it like prescribed, I wouldn’t worry too much. It sounds like I’m taking a ton but gabapentin is prescribed in those high doses for some reason. Although evidence is limited, some studies show gabapentin can help with anxiety symptoms. This IS NOT the subreddit for discussion of how to get high or otherwise abuse GP. sorry that happened to you!! different people have different side effects. it is one of the first resorts for sciatica and other similar nerve pain and it is highly effective for that in most people. i could not walk if i did not take lyrica (essentially a stronger gabapentin). i’m more than willing to trade a large amount of brain fog and my memory for mobility. the grapefruit thing relates I'm struggling with the withdrawal symptoms from effexor, and my NP prescribed gabapentin to help with the anxiety and burning nerves pain. Not once did she say that I would have to go through all of this again when stopping gabapentin. One of the medications he had given me was Neurontin (gabapentin), and it has helped not only with my anxiety but also with horrible sciatic nerve pain (when I'm sitting for long periods of time and at night when I'm sleeping), it has helped so much. Gabapentin stopped my intrusive thoughts that would lead to anxiety & panic attacks. The thoughts would start as soon as I woke up & I would fight them all day long. It made it very hard to fall asleep or to go back to sleep after waking. I was using Gabapentin for anxiety/recreationally and asked my doc to switch me to lyrica because I thought it would be more recreational but lyrica made me feel shitty and I felt like I almost had a seizure off 250mg lyrica. I had increased anxiety, felt weird, and was getting weird muscle twitches and body jerks. Psych recently prescribed it for me because I had addictive issues with abusing my ativan/xanax in the past so we were looking for an option with less potential for addiction. I’ve taken gabapentin for about a week now but haven’t felt too much. Anyone in a similar situation? I am prescribed Gabapentin for off label for anxiety and chronic pain related to cancer treatment. My script is written to take 1 pill 3 times daily. I notice more anxiety symptom relief when I take my first dose later in the day and space the last two doses closer together. I just got prescribed 300mg of Gabapentin 3x a day, with the possibility to increase to 4x a day if needed. This is for long term management of anxiety but reading about everyone’s experience online is really stressing me out. I just started Gabapentin for anxiety. I do also take 87.5mg Zoloft (I'm edging myself up to the goal of 100mg, slowly), and 150mg of Lamictal. I have dysthymia and GAD, with some social anxiety as well. I never want to utilize said dose. Gabapentin is actually becoming more and more dangerous. Even for people that take it for seizures and Nero issues. There are long term effects that cause issues (there’s research on this). For me if your on it for anxiety it’s not a good thing it is not FDA approved, I experienced some of the worst side effects from it. Gabapentin is helpful to some people with specific pain problems as many in the comments are suggesting. However if you are getting TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) to treat depression and/or anxiety keep in mind gabapentin can actually reduce the efficacy of the treatment.
