It’s weird because the original reason I was put on Gabapentin was to reduce my alcohol intake and help with any withdrawals. Dr prescribed 600mg 3x daily. At first, it immediately cut my drinking in half. I was still pouring drinks but it was taking me three times as long to finish them so it was a win! This study (Alcohol Clin Exp Res, 2007, 31:221) demonstrated that doses up to 1200 mg of gabapentin was safe up to a BAC of around 0.3. But they also stated that it did not alter subject's mental state (it did not produce more intoxication). Bear in mind that this is just one study.
