Currently up to 1200 daily and the back of my throat is constantly raw. Does this ever go away? Also zero pain reduction so far.. Dude. Just get off it. It's not a pain medication. It literally slows your central nervous system down and results in bad side effects over time. I have been taking 300 MGs of Gabapentin at night for about a year with generally no side effects. Lately though I have been experiencing dry mouth and dysphasia primarily at night after taking. I've taken neurontin (gabapentin) or other types of pain, but not for oral pain. It is a medication that works best for nerve-related pain. So, if your pain is nerve-related it may work very well. Posted 7 years ago, 6 users are following. I've been on 300 mg a day of Gabapentin for a year. Been off two weeks. The doctor took me off. Abruptly. I'm experiencing extreme dry mouth. Anyone else had this problem on or off this medication? Also, headaches in the afternoon. Gabapentin may cause side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and dizziness. I have little cuts on the corners of both sides of my mouth that keep reopening 😫 I use a generous amount of aquaphor on my lips and they still crack. And the dry mouth drives me insane. It appears to cause significant dry mouth in my case even at a moderate dose. Biotene products help as does chewing gum with xylitol. Lemon drops may help with producing more saliva, but especially at night, can cause extensive gum line decay on your teeth. The most common gabapentin (Neurontin) side effects are dizziness and drowsiness. This may affect your ability to drive or perform other activities. Other gabapentin side effects include edema (fluid buildup), weight gain, and eye problems, but these aren’t as common. Rare but serious gabapentin side effects include mood changes in children. I have developed neuropathy and the pain is insane. Gabapentin works amazingly for me but I am so damn afraid of it and cautious. I try to take is a max of 3 times a week. Only days I have to go into work n be on my feet as a precaution. Then only if pain starts. I don’t know what I’m afraid of more, the pain or taking Gabapentin. I don't get dry mouth, but I get it in spades in the morning, when I also drink 5 ounces of Prune Juice. It turns out that Prune Juice causes dry mouth, because it's action is to draw water into the large intestine, thus making it possible to poop. Gabapentin is taken by mouth and comes in capsule, tablet, and liquid form. Gabapentin is FDA-approved as Neurontin to treat partial seizures in adults and children with epilepsy. Partial seizures are convulsions that originate from a single location in the brain. Well dry mouth is one of the main causes behind meth mouth, so anything that causes dry mouth and if left dry and unbrushed will result in a bacteria field-day. The tickle in your throat is from the smoke. If you made edibles (or probably even using an herb vape) would likely eliminate the throat tickle/sore throat issue. Yeah, gabapentin can increase thirst/ cause dry mouth. OP, try to seek help for your drug use and have your doctor help you come off of gabapentin. And, please have an evaluation with your primary to rule out other things like diabetes if not already done I have been using a dry mouth wash & lubrication eye drops, but since my Gaba dose increase to the 900, these have completely failed to help ease my symptoms. It feels like my saliva has become acidic as I’ll get sensitivity in all of my teeth away from actually eating anything, it’s really weird, hence why I feel it’s due to dry mouth. Thank you so much for responding. Since Burning Mouth is a rare condition, I really appreciate hearing from you. I am currently doing all the things your ENT suggested you do. You are so right that Burning Mouth is a miserable condition. My diagnosis with Burning Mouth was by my neurologist in October 2021. Some side effects of gabapentin may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. I never really acknowledged it until now because your post had me thinking about it but yeah I do get a bit of dry mouth when I take my full daily dose. I just suck on a peppermint or cough drop usually. When I took Strattera I had the worst dry mouth I’ve ever experienced in my life. I went from having no new cavities for eight or nine years (at least) to developing three substantial ones on the span of a year. No amount of hydration could combat it.
