At first they gave me high dosage of naproxen which only dulled Doctors often prescribe gabapentin off-label to treat conditions such as: pain from diabetic neuropathy, which is numbness or uncomfortable tingling caused by nerve damage from diabetes; nerve pain in the neck and back from conditions such as sciatica, a painful compression of the sciatic nerve I’m currently taking Gabapentin and have been for a few months and it has been incredibly helpful. I’m taking it with Tramadol and I feel ten times better than before. I have a very high tolerance so I never felt high but I will say the combo makes me SO hungry! Members Online Hi I have been dealing with sciatica pain since November 2020. I take gabapentin 900mg twice a day and 1200mg at bedtime. It works well for me but it took almost 18 months to build it up to this level. Gabapentin takes time to build up.to an effective level. I haven't had any side effects either. I recommend trying it. The doctor prescribed Gabapentin, and the sciatica has subsided. I feel it occasionally, briefly, and worry! But after a week I have had no side effects from the Gabapentin, and think it's a marvellous addition to pain relief. Will the sciatica come back if/when I stop taking the Gabapentin? Gabapentin changes the way the brain and body exchange messages. It calms the nerves by blocking pain-causing neurotransmitters, making gabapentin an effective treatment for sciatica and There is currently an absence of high-grade evidence regarding the treatment of chronic sciatica (CS). Whilst gabapentin (GBP) and pregabalin (PGB) are both currently used to treat CS, equipoise exists regarding their individual use. In particular, no head-to-head study of GBP and PGB in CS exists. The first time I took gabapentin for sciatic pain it did nothing and I could barely get out of bed the next day. Five years or so later, another bout of sciatica, tried gabapentin again. It helped quite a bit with pain and also helped me fall asleep. No or not much hangover feeling in the morning. I was in severe pain for months and my doctor prescribed gabapentin for me for sciatica. I was finally able to get a good nights sleep and able to finally sit in a chair.. I called her back to thank her if that tells you how much relief I had. Gabapentin is a relative and starting doses are 300mg 3x a day. Gabapentin is also indicated for other uses such as seizures, anxiety and nerve pain where pregabalin (lyrica) is mostly indicated for nerve pain. Has anyone here tried Gabapentin for their sciatica and what where your results? I recently started Gabapentin (300mg, 3x daily) for sciatica in left leg due to pressure on nerve root from protrusion at L5-S1. My pain doc prescribed it as a stopgap until I get an epidural. I had a S1-L5 fusion back in December. My sciatica had only ever been in my left side. A few weeks after surgery my right side flared up for the first time ever. Doc gave me a script for gabapentin and it helped out. Right side pain has completely gone away now. Those are possible side-effects, not guaranteed ones. I have quite severe sciatica from a damaged nerve and take 3 x 2 Zapain (30mg codeine phosphate + 500mg paracetamol) AND 3 x 3 300mg Gabapentin to counteract the pain. Gabapentin helps with spasms and nerve pain but accompanies side effects I was started on a low dose gabapentin 300 mg in am and at night but due to difficulty sleeping due to pain spine doc told insteucted me to take 600 at night .. It help me with nerve pain.. For some people, combining amitriptyline and gabapentin (Neurontin) may help relieve sciatic nerve pain further. But side effects are more likely to happen. Various forms of exercise and manual therapy can be helpful. Hello all. I’ve been trying different things for ongoing sciatica and was recently prescribed gabapentin 3 times a day. So far, I don’t feel much although I do get why it’s prescribed for anxiety.
