gabapentin not working reddit gabapentin 50 mg for cats side effects

Made my thinking a little slower too, but nothing crazy. It would work well for a while and then the pain would be back. We’d increase the dose, and the same thing would happen. It’d work for a while and pain would creep back. I just got increased to 2400 mg of Gabapentin a week ago and the pain is still terrible. Gabapentin not working ook my cat on a car ride from seattle to San Francisco and I gave him gabapentin from the vet and this made him sleep all 12 hours. A couple days later I have to drive to San Diego which is only 6 hours. So I’m prescribed gabapentin 300mg 3 times a day. Whenever I get my script I just use it to get a nice buzz and go through it in about a week then let my tolerance reset. Since I’ve gotten my last script filled it seems like no matter how much I take on an empty stomach, with aleve, it doesn’t seem to do anything. I'm wondering if getting off Gabapentin for a month or longer and then starting it again would reset my tolerance for it and give me the same three weeks of relief before it lost its effect again. Imagine doing this regularly if it worked. No pain for shorts periods is better than pain all the time. Doubtful that this would work, huh? And it works well. Same goes if my gabapentin doesn't arrive on time I double my thc tincture or edible. The combination works best for me but my main point here is that 5 mg alone does not fully do the trick for me. I am also on stimulant medication for ADHD that I take generally 10-12 hours before gabapentin. 5% lidocaine patches have helped much more than gabapentin in controlling the nerve pain in my feet at night. I also avoid the systemic exposure to gabapentin and the side effects. The patches were prescribed by a podiatrist. Tegretol/carbamazepine is generally the most powerful and effective for pain, gabapentin/Neurontin is usually not prescribed first, but in conjunction with other drugs later. They (any of the anti-seizure meds used to treat tn pain) all need to build up in your system, they all have tough mental side effects and they all stop working over time On occasion patients try it and only go to 300 or 600 mg /day and then think it doesn’t work. Make sure you give your meds a chance to work and follow the prescriptions before stopping. Please inform your doctors why the medicine was not working and what dose you were taking. I take 600mg x3 a day. I no longer am receiving the effects. I have panic attacks when I'm not on it and recently it hasn't been working fully. It does sometimes but idk what to do. I've tried skipping a day then continuing my dose the nest day. I've tried adding an extra pill or 2 during my doses. Nothing. Edit:Spelling Yes it does! Gabapentin worked for me a few years; then it stopped working. It’s different for each person because we are different. I will be tapered off by mid to late summer. Can’t wait For myself Gabapentin made my PN worse and made my arms jump and twitch basically controllable, as soon as I quite taking it that was gone. I can see where some people would benefit from Gabapentin or Pregablin (Lyrica types), but it is not for me. I am taking 2,700mg a day of Gabapentin (just been increased) and to be honest it doesnt seem to be working at all anymore. At first it was brilliant. I was prescribed it for osteoarthritis in back and hips. Gabapentin isn't going to stop Opioid withdrawal, not even close. It helps alleviate some of the symptoms. It helps with the increased anxiety, restless legs, insomnia, and hot/cold flashes quite a lot, but if someone's coming off a very high dose of opioid stimulation, it may not even noticeably help at all. I've been on gabapentin for a year n half, progressively increased to 2700mgs a day. It's not working anymore. I have nerve damage in my forearms and hands, from a career as a ex-downhill mountain biker. It seemed to work just fine for almost exactly two years and then suddenly, on 12/25/23, I started feeling symptoms again that had calmed down quite a bit (heightened nerve sensitivity, dizziness, anxiety, increased heat intolerance, etc). I found mine only worked along with something else. Opioid wise. I call it lyrica in Australia. Not gabapentin. When I was just taking lyrica on its own it didn't feel like it was working. Then took Opioid to. Worked. Took myself off lyrica and the Opioid didn't work. So.. mixing is a worker for me. My blanket term for somatized anxiety, fibromyalgia, etc. All the pain that doesn’t respond to medications that specifically treat pain of physiologic origin. I’m sure there is a better way to put that, but I’m not writing the DSM VI. Gabapentin is one that can work for both in certain patients.
